Security company issues warning on six apps that can access your bank account.
A security company, Pradeo, has issued a warning against six Apps that could access your bank account and drain it from your savings. These Apps are found on the Google Play Store and they are; Safety AppLock, Emoji Wallpaper, Push message – texting & SMS, Fingertip Game box, Convenient Scanner2 and Separate Doc Scanner.
Pradeo revealed that these apps are loaded with malware known as Joker, which is a type of Fleeceware. It can fleece the money of its victims.
“Joker is a malicious bot categorised as Fleeceware, whose main activity is to simulate clicks and intercept SMS to subscribe to unwanted paid premium services unbeknownst to users,” Pradeo wrote on its official blog.
In addition, researchers explained that by using as little code as possible and thoroughly hiding it, the Joker generates a very discreet footprint that can be tricky to detect. Basically, it can access your bank accounts.
It has been discovered that over 200 000 Android users have already downloaded these Apps. Therefore, researchers urge everyone who has installed these Apps in their phone or tablets to delete them immediately.
After being notified of this potential security breach, Google deleted two Apps from the Play Store, but four are still remaining. Google also confirmed the existence of an Android Security bug discovered by security start up Oversecured, which they managed to fix.
“We appreciate the researcher reporting this issue to us, and as a result, it was patched in March,” Google Spokesperson said.
