Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 urged Nigerians to follow the necessary safety protocols as businesses gradually reopen.

Dr Sani Aliyu said Nigerians must be ready to follow protocols in order to avoid a fresh surge of Covid-19 PAY

The Ministry of Health has cautioned against the “second wave of Covid-19 pandemic” which it said will be disastrous to the economy of the country and lives.

Speaking during the Covid-19 presidential task force briefing on Monday, August 3, Dr Sani Aliyu who is the coordinator of the committee gave the warning. Sani urged “businesses that are reopening to align themselves” with the safety protocols and guidelines of the coronavirus.

This means the collective efforts of the governments across all levels are yielding results and the PTF has called for caution against a second surge.

“Specifically, we urge businesses that are reopening to align themselves to our efforts by establishing and practising COVID-19-sensitive business precautionary measures.

“We eventually have to reopen, but we can only do so if we reopen safely. It is quite clear, as we can see from the other parts of the world, that certain countries are now going back into lockdown because of the pandemic coming back,” Mr Aliyu said.

The PTF coordinator also said the country cannot afford another surge of the virus because it will “destroy our economy and it will lead to a lot of deaths.”

Meanwhile, the federal government of Nigeria has raised the hope of the citizens of the country over the cases of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Federal government said on Monday, August 3, that the positive cases of COVID-19 dropped by 2,000 in July, further stating that the number of tests carried out across the country increased by 40,000 in just one month. It added that a total of 287,532 COVID-19 tests have been carried out so far in Nigeria.
