Beijing, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) The company China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm) will launch its two candidates for Covid-19 vaccines on the market next December, at less than 1,000 yuan (144 dollars) for two doses, reported today the local press.

According to the media, the president of the firm, Liu Jingzhen, said they will start working on commercialization issues as soon as the third phase of clinical trials, which have been carried out in the United Arab Emirates since last June, are completed.

He assured that the price will not increase once in the market, as students and workers in urban areas are among the priority sectors to receive the drug first.

According to Liu, a plant in Beijing has already passed biosafety inspections and is ready to produce 120 million doses per year, while another in Wuhan will obtain 100 million doses per year.

He added that he himself was vaccinated and does not present any adverse reaction.

Since last June, employees of state-owned companies in China who work abroad have proposed to apply one of the two Sinopharm preparations.

Its application -which requires a notification from the biopharmaceutical- is completely voluntary, with a previously signed consent and the second dose would be administered between 14 and 28 days later. China patented its first candidate for a vaccine against the respiratory disease a few days ago.

It is the recombinant Ad5-nCoV, the result of a joint project between the company CanSino Biologics Inc and a group of scientists from the People’s Liberation Army (EPL), led by biowarfare expert Chen Wei.

The drug was approved in June for use in the military sector for a year and the Central Military Commission – the highest military body – will be in charge of authorizing its use in any other vaccination plan for civilians.

According to EPL regulations, under this measure, drugs considered special are reserved only to prevent and treat illnesses and injuries in certain military settings.
