UCL: Dortmund overturned an early deficit to beat Sevilla as Porto edge Juventus

Erling Haaland scored two fantastic goals as Borussia Dortmund overturned an early deficit to beat Sevilla 3-2, while Porto got the better of Juventus in their last-16 first leg

Sevilla with three vital away goals in the Champions League last 16.

Former Liverpool attacking midfielder Suso opened the scoring for Sevilla in the seventh minute with a deflected effort which beat Dortmund Marwin Hitz.

But the Westphalians hit back 12 minutes later through Mahmoud Dahoud, who collected the ball from Erling Haaland and curled a magnificent strike into the top corner.

Eager to get on the scoresheet himself, Haaland combined with Jadon Sancho to put Dortmund ahead, before extending the advantage by capping an incisive counter-attack just before half-time.

Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui made one change at half-time and three on the hour mark and his changes brought some success, as Luuk de Jong netted in the 84th minute.

Dortmund’s 3-2 win in Andalusia ended Sevilla’s formidable run of seven consecutive clean sheets and gives the Bundesliga side a strong aggregate advantage to take into the return leg.

In Wednesday’s other European fixture, Porto downed Juventus with a 2-1 win at Estadio do Dragao to leave their last-16 tie finely poised.

Porto opened the scoring in the second minute as Mehdi Taremi punished a horrendous back-pass by Rodrigo Bentancur to finish beyond Wojciech Szczesny.

The Portuguese giants proved to be the more alert of the sides in the opening stages of the second half, too, as Moussa Marega finished clinically in the 46th minute after finding himself in space in the box.

Cristiano Ronaldo had a quiet night for the visitors, who struggled to create chances until Federico Chiesa pulled one back in the 83rd minute.

Juventus may fancy themselves to overturn the narrow deficit in Turin, but the result comes as another setback for Andrea Pirlo’s side, who are also off the pace in Serie A and sit fourth in the table.
